The research is dedicated to industry-specific features of foreign direct investments in start-ups or so-called “greenfields” all over the world. Official data of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development is analyzed. The research illustrates the changes in the structure of investment targeted at start-ups from 2003 to 2016. We make a detailed analysis of changes in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy. We also reveal which industries began to dominate in 2016 compared to 2003 and which of them lost their attractiveness for investors.
