We look at the problem of demographic development and preservation of public health in the context of the national goals set by the President of Russia in July 2020. Demographic indicators and forecast of the population size are given by the example of the regions of the North-West of Russia. The dynamics of funding the health care system is studied. We offer the results of comparative assessment of allocations from the consolidated regional budget and paid medical services to the health care system. The conclusion is made about the need to improve the regional budgetary policy.
