We present the materials of an interdisciplinary scientific project dedicated to the complex of problems of human tolerance to extreme influences related to the professional activity under adverse environmental conditions. The mechanisms of extreme conditions formation, factors of body resistance to adverse effects as well as modern ideas about the mechanisms of adaptation and formation of maladaptive states are considered. We substantiate the main directions of predicting and correcting the tolerance for extreme influences using both pharmacological and physiological methods. We demonstrate the prospects of a wide application of the approaches to the correction of the functional state using a wide range of regulatory peptides, adaptogens, psychoenergizing and psychoharmonizing agents, immunotropic compounds in medical practice. A modular principle and types of specialized functional nutrition have been developed to optimize the functional state of people in the Arctic, highlands, desert, environmental disasters aftermath as well as professionals working in extreme conditions.
