Over the past decades, human life expectancy has increased significantly, which has led, however, to an increase in the frequency of age-dependent pathology that stimulates the development of chronic diseases. Recent research found links of age-associated pathology with the formation of senescent cells (SC). «Freezing» of the cell cycle with paradoxical preservation of metabolic activity allows SC to modify not only its own, but also the phenotype of neighboring cells, promoting the spread of a specific spectrum of biologically active molecules – senescence associated secretory phenotype (SASP). In order to correct the emerging senescent phenotype, global researchers predict the regulation of endogenous production of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a gaseous molecule recently classified as a gas transmitter. However, not all scientists share the opinion that the studies in question fully reflect the physiological conditions of H2S metabolism in vivo. |
